Lawrence will get something of a mini spring break today from an otherwise soggy week of weather.
"It's a break between your rain yesterday and your rain tomorrow," said Matt Sayers, 6News meteorologist. "Get outside and enjoy this one if you can, because there's plenty of rainfall on the way."
He predicted mostly sunny skies today, letting through filtered sunshine throughout the day.
Temperatures were starting out cool today, reaching only the low 50s by mid morning.
However, temperatures were expected to climb to a high of 73 for the rest of the day. The overnight low will drop to 52.
Tuesday's rainfall varied throughout the Lawrence area, with some locations reporting more than twice as much as others, Sayers said.
Reports sent in by the volunteer 6News Skyhawks weather watchers indicated that Stull received 0.70 of an inch and that southern Lawrence got a half inch.
However, Sayers recorded 1.1 inches at the 6News office at Seventh and New Hampshire streets in the city's downtown. Southwest Lawrence had 1.4 inches and the Deerfield area in northern Lawrence reported 1 inch.
Thursday's skies will be cloudy, with the high reaching 67.
"Rain chances will hold off until just after the evening commute," he said. "Severe weather doesn't really look to be an issue. It should stay to the south of us. But we could have some lighting."
The rain should continue through Friday evening, with the area getting as much as a one- to two-inch soaking, Sayers said.
Friday's cool rains will keep the high to only 59. The rains leave by Saturday, but the high will reach only 61, under cloudy skies.
Then temperature will start to warm up again, with the highs reaching 69 on Sunday and 73 on Monday.
