The body of a former Lawrence woman was found in the garage of her daughter's home in Oklahoma.
Shelly Maytubby faces multiple charges after Oklahoma authorities found her mother's body in her garage.
Officers arrested 52-year-old Maytubby of Eufaula, Okla. after McIntosh County deputies found the body of her 79-year-old mother, Erlene McCune, in a garage on her property.
Maytubby was arrested on charges of unlawfully disposing of human remains, obstructing an officer, disrupting an investigation, and financial exploitation by a caretaker.
In September, Maytubby removed her mother from the Windsor Place, an assisted living facility in West Lawrence, to return with her to Oklahoma.
Investigators say thousands of dollars in cash, which may have belonged to the dead woman, was found in Maytubby's mobile home.
The investigation began two weeks ago when family members questioned McCune's welfare.
Deputies say Maytubby told them her mother had run off with a truck driver named "Santa Claus" whom she met at a Dollar Store.
A later search warrant led deputies to the dead body, wrapped in a sheet inside Maytubby's garage.
She then told detectives her mother died of natural causes mid-November.
Maytubby is being held in McIntosh County on a $50,000 bond.
McCune’s other daughter that lives in Lawrence said that other than having dementia, her mother was strong and healthy.
