Tonganoxie man spots his stolen truck, starts pursuit

Tonganoxie resident Anthony Brungardt arrived at his car lot Monday morning to two of his vehicles had been stolen. Hours later, he spotted one of the stolen automobiles being driven in Lawrence.

The vehicles stolen include a 1994 Z-71  Chevy truck and a 1981 black Trans Am. He says he reported the thefts to Tonganoxie Police. Later in the day, he drove to Lawrence to run some errands. That's when he spotted the truck at 23rd and Lousisiana.

He started to follow the truck while calling police. Lawrence Police picked up the pursuit but called it off at 2nd and McDonald becaus they were concerned about safety issues.

Brungardt says he's more interested in seeing the thief or thieves locked up than getting his vehicles back. He's offeirng a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.

The truck was seen with a veteran's plate and a hitch. Those items were not on the truck before being stolen. No suspect information is available.
