Family asks for public's help finding son

Dozens of family and friends stood in front of the Alemu home Thursday night in Olathe, hoping their loved one will come home.

On Saturday morning, they reported their son Yelekal Alemu missing.

The 23-year-old Lawrence man was expected at a family function and didn't show.

Attorney and spokesman for the family Zach Leau says law enforcement were able to track down his cell phone to rural Douglas County, off K10. That's where they found his unlocked car, but his cell phone wasn't there. And Kal was nowhere to be found.

"If he's injured, needs help, contact the family," Leau said. "If there's anybody out there that has any information about his whereabouts contact the Lawrence Police Department; the most important thing is getting Helen and Debebe their son home."

He says law enforcement advised him that after combing the area around the car all day Saturday, 25 Lawrence Police and Douglas County deputies returned Sunday to continue their search.

Then on Monday, the Kansas Highway Patrol and a Missouri agency brought a canine unit.

Tuesday and Wednesday were spent going even farther from the location of the vehicle. Officers in a helicopter performed an areal search on Wednesday.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 843-TIPS.
