South Middle School teacher named 2012 Sunflower Bank Teacher of the Year

On Thursday night officials with Sunflower Bank awarded South Middle School social studies teacher Chris Davis with the 2012 Teacher of the Year Award.

"This is a real honor because it comes from the kids," Davis said. "What's so fun to me is to see that they get it and that it's rewarding to them as well. The excitement I got from the kids in the school after i won the [monthly] award was really neat too. It's just really  good to know that you're connecting.

Davis has been teaching at South Middle school for three years, but he doesn't consider himself a teacher. Instead he sees himself as a motivator of students. When he's not in the classroom, Davis can be found leading pep rallies. His students say it's that enthusiasm that sets him apart.

"He really gives every student a chance to succeed and I think its great to have him at South," said Genevieve Voight. "They [teachers] just don’t really realize what an impact they have on us, and I think that it's really important that the students give them recognition for what they do.”
