Theo Hayes (Anchor/Reporter)

Theo HayesMy Journalism career has been an exciting whirlwind that has taken me all over the country and I’m happy to now call Lawrence home. I joined the team in August of 2010 and hope to make a difference in the community.

I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago and since I can remember have known that news and sharing information was my calling. I attended the University of Illinois in Champaign and received my BS in Broadcast Journalism. I did my internship at WFAA in Dallas, Tex. and got my first job out of college at KLBK/KAMC in Lubbock, Tex., where I worked as the general assignment and education reporter.

Following that position, I moved on to Milwaukee to work for the WB 18 News as a reporter and anchor. Coincidently, I was born in Milwaukee, so that move was a natural transition. Next, I found myself being pulled all the way to the West Coast, –LA to be exact.

While there, I freelanced as a reporter with several stations including NBC4, L.A. CityView 35 and hosted TV segments for local entertainment production companies. I also wrote for a monthly magazine-style newspaper called “LA Focus on the Word.” While I have covered all kinds of scandals, crimes and destruction, and have interviewed all sorts of high-profile people, the stories I truly enjoy are those that bring people together and help change lives for the better.

On the weekends you will find me either weight-lifting, shopping for Native American art or in search of authentic cuisine from practically every country. Time permitting, I also love to ‘veg out’ on the couch and watch movies around the clock. I’m also addicted to Twitter. So make sure to follow me, @TheoHayes, and send those news tips to thayes@6newslawrence.com.
